Sharing stories about an older grumpy and stressed uncle or grandparent has become a common tale during Thanksgiving in many homes, including mine. This experience of living and interacting with stressed older adults is a motivating factor for this clinical scholarly project. Definitively, stress among the elderly is a major public health issue that undermines the health and well-being of older adults. Seangpraw et al. (2020) find that approximately 15 percent of individuals who identify as elderly or older adults have mental illness globally, with stress affecting almost 10-55 percent of the population. Unfortunately, Seangpraw et al. (2020) indicate that the incidence of stress among older adults is expected to increase over the next decade, which will be associated with deteriorating mental, social, and physical health. Consequently, solutions to the high incidence of stress among the elderly are urgently needed and this clinical scholarly project utilized a quantitative quasi-experimental study and the use of convenience sampling to recruit the participants. The intervention was 12 weeks to reduce stress level which was measured with perceived stress scale questionnaires. At completion, it shows a statistically significant decrease in stress levels after intervention with group walking (t (20) = 42.02, p < .001). Hence, group walking can assist older patients with stress to regain psychological well-being and reduce loneliness.
