Traditional network topologies incorporate a "castle and moat" style of architecture, which refers to securing the perimeter of a network and trusting everything inside it. Recent cyber incidents have proven that traditional architectures may be becoming obsolete. Zero-Trust architecture invokes the mindset of "never trust, always verify." Since the cloud environment is rapidly becoming the leading platform for providing infrastructure and storage to organizations, proper networking must be implemented to mitigate threats from malicious actors. The research presented will provide empirical evidence supporting the need and benefits of implementing Zero-Trust in a cloud environment. The Literature Review sections of the paper will describe the various forms of Zero-Trust architecture that are beginning to be employed in the cloud, including Software-Defined Networking and Software-Defined Perimeter. This paper will also explain how specific affected sectors of the workforce can combat malware by implementing Zero-Trust. Proper Identity Access Management (IAM) and access control policies are vital to the appropriate integration and configuration of Zero-Trust.
