Includes bibliographical references
Extant marketing research has primarily focused on consumer knowledge of specific products or product categories. Insights into how a broader issue knowledge impacts the cognitive processing of consumers is lacking. Based on construal level theory, we argue consumers' cognitive elaboration differs based on their issue knowledge and message framing of the advertisement. Using a combination of student samples and online research platforms, four studies were conducted. Implications are discussed to assist marketers in developing effective advertisements for sustainable products.
