This non-experimental quantitative research study investigates the mediating role of trust in the relationship between toxic leadership and employee silence. Toxic leadership, characterized by destructive behaviors and a lack of empathy, has garnered increasing attention for its detrimental effects on employees and organizations. This study used an anonymous online survey tool to collect data and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient as the primary data analysis technique. Findings revealed an association between toxic leadership and trust in leaders, confirming prior research. However, the study goes further to uncover the mediating effect of trust, suggesting that toxic leadership diminishes trust, which, in turn, heightens employee silence. The results underscore the crucial role of trust as a mediator in this relationship, shedding light on the mechanisms by which toxic leadership contributes to employee silence. This study has practical implications for organizations seeking to address toxic leadership and foster open communication, trust, and well-being among employees. It also opens avenues for future research on trust-building strategies and interventions in toxic leadership contexts.
