Jesus is the comprehensive paradigm for personal ministry. He is the complete, perfect standard for all counselors. Johannine literature demonstrates that Jesus had a methodology of counseling the modern church must follow to counsel biblically. He had a pattern of care summarized in the following methodological framework: relational involvement and investment, gathering data and discerning problems, giving instruction and hope, and anticipated abiding. Jesus utilized these key elements in the conversations with Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the government official, the lame man, the adulterous woman, the blind man, the family of Lazarus, Peter, and the seven churches in Revelation 2:1-3:22.
