Coherent control spectroscopy uses shaped or coherent light to manipulate and measure the quantum dynamics of electrons and nuclei in molecules. By shaping the amplitude and phase of laser pulses, one can tailor the initial wave function and influence the subsequent dynamics. This technique can be used to study various aspects of molecular motion, such as non-adiabatic dynamics (coupled motion of electrons and nuclei) and electronic coherence, both of which play an extremely important role in the photophysics of most molecules. In this thesis, I discuss the development of a specially designed ultrafast optical pulse shaper to generate and arbitrarily shape 5 fs pulses to study such molecular dynamics using a multiphoton driven version of time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (TR-PES). The ability to arbitrarily shape these laser pulses offers a vast toolbox of techniques that go beyond typical pump-probe measurements. The experiments described in this thesis provide a road map for a broad range of studies that follow and control electronic and nuclear dynamics using shaped laser pulses.
