Sex-Trafficking is a worldwide sociological phenomenon affecting millions of children every year, a phenomenon that knows no borders (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), 2018). COVID-19 global pandemic has given rise to a substantial increase in cyber-sex-trafficking (Trafficking in Persons (TIP), 2021). Millions of children each year are en-slaved into a life filled with great suffering and uncertainty. The impact of trauma in relationship to a child being trafficked extends far beyond lived experiences of trafficked children, this atrocity affects families and professionals who care for trafficked victims. Trauma informed care is essential in helping the trafficked child recover and it is important in understanding how professionals are impacted psychologically (Greenbaum, 2018). The Philippines is considered a transit, destination, and source country for sex-trafficking (UNODC, 2018). Furthermore, the Philippines is reported to be in the top five countries globally where sex-trafficking is prevalent and cyber-sex-trafficking of children has become a primary mode of entry into the sex trade (Philippines Department of Justice (PDOJ) 2021; UNODC, 2018; TIP, 2021). This phenomenological study explored how professionals in the Philippines make sense of sex-trafficking in their country and how working with this population impacts their own well-being. Three primary themes were identified including (1) Family, Poverty, and the Pandemic, (2) Intentional Communication, Mindful Awareness, and Secondary Trauma and (3) Faith, Hope, and Love. The results of this study demonstrate poverty and COVID-19 Pandemic have perpetuated sex-trafficking of girls in the Philippines in addition to professionals experiencing secondary trauma as a result of their work.
