DevSecOps is an innovative set of concepts for improving the end-state of deployed mission software with improved backed-in Cybersecurity. DevSecOps implements automated testing, cybersecurity quality scanning, source code analysis tools, immutable system design, and rapid deployment processes. The DevSecOps technology stack(s) definition and contents are immature and filled with gaps. When implemented, Agile technologies decrease system development and engineering time. DevOps processes rapidly decrease the time from initial code to mission system operations through improved software quality. DevOps focuses on software pipeline construction via automated deployments, decreasing the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) (years-to-months-to-days-to-hours) but failed to provide cybersecurity protections correctly. DevSecOps bridges the shortcomings in DevOps via additional Cybersecurity activities early within software pipeline construction. Design Science Research (DSR) into the DevSecOps reference frameworks and technology stacks was needed to improve understanding of DevSecOps. Existing frameworks and cornerstone literature reviews, coupled with DSR, improved the body of knowledge (BoK). The result was an improved and successful DevSecOps Reference Framework for implementation.
