The purpose of this of this quantitative correlational study was to determine to what extent an associative relationship exists between the dimensions of e-leadership and the virtual team effectiveness factors among virtual teams at two-year, public technical colleges in the Upper Midwest of the United States. Prior to the study, it was not known to what extent an associative relationship existed between the dimensions of e-leadership and the virtual team effectiveness factors among virtual teams in higher education. The theoretical foundation consisted of the Integrated Model of Virtual Team Effectiveness and the Six E-Competencies (SEC) Model. Three research questions guided this study: to what extent does an associate relationship exist between e-communication and e-trustworthiness and cohesion and coordination (RQ1), between e-communication and individually cohesion and coordination (RQ2), and e-trustworthiness and individually cohesion and coordination (RQ3). Primary data was collected via an online survey from a convenience sample of 124 employees from technical colleges in the Upper Midwest using the SEC Survey and the Integrated Model of Virtual Team Effectiveness Survey. Spearman's correlation analyses indicated statistically significant positive correlations for RQ1 (rs(122) = .638 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.52, .73]) and rs(122) = .393 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.23, .54]), RQ2 (rs(122) =.521 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.38, .64]) and rs(122) = .321 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.15, .48]), and RQ3 (rs(122) =.417 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.26, .56] and rs(122) = .397 (p < .001, 95% CI = [.23, .54]). The findings inform decision-makers in higher education about skills needed and the importance of e-leadership and team effectiveness in virtual settings.
