The Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen) aims to improve public genomics knowledge with a focus on identifying genes and variants of clinical relevance for use in precision medicine and research. ClinGen is a National Institutes of Health funded international volunteer effort composed of clinicians, researchers, graduate students, and others. ClinGen has over 2300 members; however, there has been little involvement from Oklahoma to date. This study used pre and post surveys sandwiching a short educational video about ClinGen to assess providers' awareness of and attitudes towards ClinGen and other genetic resources. Participants from different specialties were recruited via an anonymous survey link email through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) Office of Research Administration listserv. Fiftythree participants initially responded to the invitation, however, 11 did not meet inclusion criteria by not being a provider or student of OUHSC/OU Health. Among the 42 remaining, 43% were OUHSC/OU Health faculty, 24% were OU Health providers and 12% were students (mostly graduate). We found that 74% of participants that completed the pre-survey were not familiar with ClinGen, while just two had previously accessed or used the website. Fifteen percent of participants had not used any type of genetic resources in the last year. Of those that had used a genetic resource (N =39), 34% used an online resource or academic journals alone (31%). When comparing pre and post surveys there were no significant changes in provider attitudes towards genetics and ClinGen from pre to post (p <.05), however, there was an increase in provider belief that it is important to stay up to date in advances in genetics (80% to 85%) and that ClinGen would help fill gaps in genetics knowledge (70% to 75%). Additionally, there was a decrease in belief that their expertise could contribute to ClinGen (40% to 30%) as well as a decrease in interest in being a part of ClinGen (60% to 50%). The data from this study provide insight into provider perceptions of genetic resources while increasing awareness of genetic resources for current and future providers.
