The problem addressed by this study is that technological dependence has facilitated the rise of cyberterrorism, creating a new type of war. Cyberterrorism aims to attack or hack computer systems, networks, computer data, and programs that can cause harm and destruction to individuals or groups. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory study is to explore how technology dependence is facilitating the current rise of cyberterrorism, creating a new type of war. The study investigated the following research question: How is technological dependence facilitating the current rise of cyberterrorism? Data analyzed from the semi-structured interviews revealed nine major themes: education and training, cybersecurity challenges, Covid-19 pandemic and cybersecurity, cybersecurity deficiencies, and security protocols, emotions and behaviors regarding cybersecurity, government trust and dependability, technology dependence issues, human error, and the rise of cyberterrorism. These themes provide strategies that can be implemented to deal with the challenges created by the rapid evolution of technology and the critical vulnerabilities it generates for cybersecurity in all areas of government, and the private and public sectors. The developing knowledge delivers insight into cybersecurity challenges, the rapid evolution of technology, society's reliance on technology, the lack of adequate cyber laws, protocols, and regulations, and the probability of cyberwar.
