1. Introduction -- 2. The RP Helpline Then and Now -- 3. IIA Law and policy in the UK -- 4. The Victim's Voice -- 5. Nuance and Context in IIA -- 6. Working across the Ecosystem -- 7. Using Technology to Tackle Technology Mediated Abuse -- 8. Conclusions and the Future.
The Revenge Porn Helpline was founded in 2015 following the criminalisation of the sharing of intimate images without consent and has received over 75,000 cases. This accessible book uses this significant empirical resource to not only study the nature and evolution of Intimate Image Abuse (IIA) but also to study how victims are supported and how the wider ecosystem around victims responds. It comes from authors who have been involved with the Helpline since before its inception and have informed the policy and legislative developments discussed in this text. As well as case analysis, it draws on interviews with both practitioners and stakeholders, reflects on the authors' own experiences in the evolution of the Helpline, and considers how to use technology to tackle technology mediated abuse. This book speaks accessibly to wider audiences including practitioners across the criminal justice and social care sectors and to those who inform policy and legislative developments. Sophie Mortimer is the Manager of the Revenge Porn Helpline at South-West Grid for Learning, UK. Andy Phippen is Professor of Digital Rights at Bournemouth University, UK. Emma Bond is Professor and Pro Vice Chancellor Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Suffolk, UK.
