Purpose: This project's purpose was to develop a mobile device-friendly website for student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) that provides perioperative anesthetic considerations for Duchenne's muscular dystrophy (DMD) and measure the site's usability.Methodology: The website was developed in collaboration with 4 other project leads. The project was implemented at the graduate education building on the campus of a local university in southeastern Louisiana. Participants were SRNAs enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia program. A brief verbal explanation and tutorial on website navigation was provided to the participants. Participants were then given 20 minutes to navigate the mobile-friendly website. Immediately following, participants completed an online survey via Survey Monkey®. The survey was modified to measure the usability of the website based on the Systems Usability Scale (SUS) Survey (Brooke, 1996).Results: In total, there were 16 participants. The lowest SUS score was 70 and the highest SUS score was 100. The median and mode SUS score was 88.75 and 87.5, respectively. The mean SUS score for the mobile website was 89.53. This indicates that the mobile website is considered to have an acceptable usability (Bangor, Kortum, & Miller, 2009). Roughly half of the participants agreed that the DMD portion of the website was well-organized and will be helpful in their clinical practice while the other half strongly agreed.Implications for Practice: SRNAs will have access to the free mobile website that will provide them with evidence-based information focused on the anesthetic management of DMD. This may improve the SRNA's confidence when caring for DMD patients. The mobile website is also expected to improve DMD patient outcomes through enhanced access to critical anesthetic management information.
