Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies are being used today to help organizations address their risk mitigation strategies. AI and ML technologies are also being used to augment the cybersecurity staff in organizations by replacing people with machines capable of learning and performing tasks inside an organization. The purpose of this qualitative generic inquiry study was to explore deployment of AI and ML within the field of cybersecurity for intelligent decision making. The guiding research question for this study was, "How does Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies influence cybersecurity staff reliance on decision making?" This study was rooted in the theoretical framework of technology dominance, which posits that technology has the natural inclination of becoming dominant and prominent in comparison to weaker technologies. The sampling method used was expert sampling with a size of 10 individuals with the experience, training, and extended education within the cybersecurity field. Data was collected as audio recordings of semi-structured participant interviews. To answer the research question, the data was categorized and analyzed using Yin's five-phase cycle. From the qualitative data analysis, three themes and two sub themes arose. The main themes were: (a) employees in the IT field believe they will still be the dominant decision makers due to technology limitations, (b) decision making by AI and ML systems will become more prevalent in the workplace, and (c) there will be a learning curve and training will be necessary. The two minor themes were: (aa) a desire exists to learn more about AI and ML systems and (bb) employees will have to adjust significantly. This study's findings indicated that AI and ML technologies will become more prevalent in the IT and cybersecurity workplace, but IT professionals believe they will still be the primary decision makers.
