The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study using multiple linear regression was to examine whether, and to what extent, self-interested behavior and employee motivation predict job satisfaction and workplace performance in corporate employees in the United States. The theoretical foundation of this study was based on the self-interest theory, leader-self-serving-behavior theory, self-determination theory, job-satisfaction theory, and employee-performance theory. Two research questions guided the study: Do self-interested behavior and employee motivation predict job satisfaction? and Do self-interested behavior and employee motivation predict workplace performance? Responses of 379 corporate employees in the United States to an online survey were gathered and analyzed using multiple regression analyses. The regression results revealed that both self-interested behavior (t = 11.107, p< 0.001) and employee motivation (t = 11.966, p< 0.001) positively predicted job satisfaction, F (2,376) = 340.822, p< 0.001. Furthermore, self-interested behavior and employee motivation were significant predictors of workplace performance, F (2,376) = 183.331, p< 0.001. The self-interested behavior (t = -4.282, p< 0.001) had a negative relationship, while employee motivation (t = 17.407, p< 0.001) had a positive relationship with workplace performance. The alignment of the results from the present study with other research suggested that employee motivation, job satisfaction, and workplace performance form a triadic relationship that has an important influence on overall organizational culture and performance.
