This study examined emotional intelligence assessment and enhancement strategies among 10 emerging adult participants (aged 23-25) primarily from Black/African American backgrounds. The participants, predominantly single, completed college and, many pursued graduate studies, with full-time employment and incomes ranging from $41,000 to $99,999. The study integrated Erik Erikson's and Jeffrey Arnett's developmental theories, contributing nuanced insights into emotional intelligence, self-discipline, and well-being among emerging adults. Practical implications for educators, employers, and the study's demographic population involve interventions to enhance emotional competencies and professional success. This research enhances understanding of emotional intelligence and psychosocial development, informing future research and interventions targeting emerging adult well-being The research was a qualitative study that used semi-structured interviews to gain insights into participants' views on working in groups. Additionally, the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test was employed to measure emotional intelligence and establish a baseline for understanding. This study revealed the themes of positive communication and emotional management (emphasizing optimism and effective emotional control), task completion, and self-focus (focused on minimal effort and self-directed task completion), as well as the themes of task completion and emotional management (efficient task completion and emotional regulation), and collaboration and awareness (emphasizing teamwork and emotional judgement).
