Since the performance of the electrocatalyst is highly dependent on its structure which is known as the structure-property correlation, rationally engineering the catalytic structure becomes crucial in order to achieve superior activity and durability. Hence in this dissertation, I focused on three kinds of structured materials (i.e. Pt-based polyhedron nanoparticles, 2D transition metal oxide, and oxide/metal heterojunctioned nanocatalyst) to study their structure evolution mechanisms, and reaction mechanism correlations etc. The results here provides an atomic level understanding in the facet formation mechanism of Pt3Ni octahedral nanoparticles and the crystal structure evolution of 2D hexagonal Co(OH)2 to cubic CoO nanosheet. And a new heterostructure-based dual-site cascade reaction mechanism of the oxygen reduction reaction on SnOx/Pt-CuNi heterojunctioned nanocatalyst is proposed, as well as the revealing of internal Ni diffusion inhibition induced by indium in octahedral Pt2 In0.2 Ni1.8 electrocatalyst. In addition, a new adsorption model for molecules on transition metal facets is also established for the guidance of catalyst design and activity prediction. These research findings offer insights into the structure-property correlation in electrocatalysis, and shed light onto the electrocatalyst structure design and performance modulation.
