The digital era has transformed marketing from controlled, one-way messaging into dynamic, interactive dialogues, where content creators play a pivotal role in shaping brand narratives. Central to this shift is the strategic use of self-disclosure, where creators share personal information, emotions, and experiences, including vulnerabilities, to forge deeper connections with their audiences. Despite its growing prevalence, research on creators' self-disclosure remains sparse, particularly in the context of revealing personal vulnerabilities. This dissertation addresses this gap through three interconnected themes: (1) how audiences appraise and respond to creators' self-disclosure in general, (2) the unique dynamics of vulnerability disclosure, emphasizing the mechanisms that drive perceptions of authenticity, and (3) the common rule accounting for individual variances of perceived authenticity and how message framing influences the authenticity-trust relationship and subsequent marketing outcomes. Drawing on one interdisciplinary systematic review and two empirical studies encompassing two surveys and five experiments, this research advances digital marketing theory and practice, offering fresh insights into creators' self-disclosure, audience-perceived authenticity, and ultimate marketing outcomes.
