Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have become integral to material science due to their unique properties, offering tunable bandgaps and strong light-matter interactions that drive both fundamental research and technological innovation. The organic/monolayer (ML)-TMDC interface enables a seamless integration of organic materials with the unique properties of TMDCs for next-generation electronic and optoelectronic applications.This work focuses on the organic/ML-WS2 interface, with three molecules, terrylene, perylene and a perylene derivative (OMP). To start with, a facile synthesis method for continuous ML-WS2 film will be introduced. This method increases the homogeneity and coverage pf ML-WS2 for subsequent experimental studies.Then, the coverage-dependent re-orientation effect of molecular packing on the ML-WS2 surface is determined with photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) of the terrylene/ML-WS2 sample. The observed ionization energy (IE) reduction in PES, corroborated by STM, is attributed to variations in intermolecular and molecule/TMDC interactions. Specifically, the molecular re-orientation for thicker films results in stronger intermolecular quadruple as compared to the flat-lying first molecular layer, decreasing the IE.In the third section, the study extends to other conjugated molecules, including perylene and its derivative OMP, on ML-WS2. These molecules exhibit different coupling strengths with the substrate due to variations in molecular packing and electronic structure. While terrylene strongly couples with ML-WS2, OMP exhibits weaker coupling, influenced by steric effects from methyl groups that alter intermolecular interactions. These effects are reflected in the energy level alignment and work function changes at the organic/TMDC interfaces.Finally, the excitonic properties and dielectric screening effects of these heterostructures by the molecular ML is evaluated by UV-vis spectroscopy. Molecular overlayers affect the excitonic features of ML-WS2, particularly in altering the exciton binding energy and energy transfer mechanisms.In summary, this work provides insights into the scalable growth of ML-WS2, its interaction with conjugated molecules, and the resulting structural, electronic, and excitonic properties. These findings enhance our understanding in the field of organic/TMDC interfaces, laying the foundation for advancements in two dimensional material-based optoelectronic devices.
