This research looks at user-generated reviews, genre, time in theater, and MPAA rating in relation to movie box-office and movie box-office per theater for movies by the five major studios in the United States. All the data are secondary and was collected from online sources, IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes for user-generated reviews and Box Office Mojo for box-office. The data were analyzed using correlations or crosstabulation with chi square test in SPSS 25. The results showed a positive relationship between each variable and the box-office and box-office per theater. The crosstabulation with chi square test provided interesting insight into the differences between the genre and the box-office revenue and box-office per theater revenue, as well as between MPAA rating and box-office revenue and box-office per theater revenue.
