The expression of feelings and beliefs are mediated by an individual's personality and also by their ability to communicate effectively. Past research has shown complex and inconsistent results about how couples' communication is influenced by personality types. The aim of this research was to examine the effects that personality differences of introverts and extraverts have on couples' communication. Statistical analyses comparing extraverts to introverts who were studied in this research did not show a significant difference between these groups. Although extraverts performed slightly better in sending clear messages, have slightly better listening skills, and are slightly better at giving and getting feedback, introverts performed slightly better in handling emotional interactions.
