The United States suffers from two nation-wide problems that early intervention can solve: obesity and low mathematics achievement scores. Both come from habits started in early education that were then reinforced throughout development to then play a role in the decisions made by the adult. The obesity epidemic shows that many people have negative patterns to break, as is the case with low mathematics achievement scores. This project creates a curriculum that combines fundamental movement skills with Montessori mathematics materials to create a fun and positive way for children to develop both skills during the short early childhood educational day.
