This research study was done to compare the social interactions of three students with special needs in a general physical education class as well as in an adaptive physical education class. The aim of this study was to note the differences in social interactions that each student had with the whole class and with specific individuals in the general physical education setting compared to the interactions they had in the same manner in the adaptive physical education setting. Research was done through observation over an eight-week time frame at a public school in Manteno, Illinois. The school serves a population of both general education students as well as students with special needs. The study looks at the three students' social interactions with an entire class as well as their social interactions with individuals. The aim of the study was to attempt to find an explanation for the different types of social interactions that each student displayed in the two different settings. Data from the eight-week period was analyzed as well as interviews with staff at the school, and personal accounts from the researcher.
