Life satisfaction, or the conscious appraisal of how one’s life is going, is correlated with a range of positive life outcomes. Life satisfaction can also change in association with certain experiences. In this study, we examined the correlations between life satisfaction and leisure travel, given that many people travel with the goal of improving their life satisfaction. We used life satisfaction data from a representative sample from the Netherlands (total N = 12,597). We found that travelers reported significantly higher life satisfaction compared to non-travelers and that this effect replicated across 9 annual waves of data. Among travelers, we found that life satisfaction generally increased as a function of the number of trips taken and international versus domestic destination.
