Dieses praxisbezogene Lehrbuch orientiert sich inhaltlich an Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen, in denen Statistik als Nebenfach gelehrt wird. Es richtet sich daher insbesondere an Studierende, die in diesem Rahmen – in aller Regel „nicht ganz freiwillig“ – mit statistischen Methoden konfrontiert werden. Wegen seiner klaren inhaltlichen Struktur, zahlreicher Beispiele, vieler Illustrationen und Merkboxen eignet sich das Buch auch gut zum Selbststudium: Der Leser wird Schritt für Schritt anhand leicht verständlicher Beispiele an jedes Thema herangeführt. Zur Vertiefung des jeweiligen Stoffes werden weitere Beispiele ausführlich durchgerechnet und detailliert besprochen. So vermittelt das Buch nicht nur Basiswissen und einen guten Überblick, sondern auch erste fortgeschrittene Methoden. Zu diesen können mathematische Details im Anhang nachgelesen werden. Das Buch wurde für die vorliegende 3. Auflage vollständig aktualisiert, deutlich überarbeitet sowie um mehrere Themen erweitert. Insbesondere wird das kostenlose Statistikprogramm R mit dem leicht bedienbaren R-Commander kurz vorgestellt.
