Fragmented State Capacity
External Dependencies, Subnational Actors, and Local Public Services in Bolivia /[electronic resource] :by Marco Just Quiles. - 1st ed. 2019. - XX, 344 p. 1 illus.online resource.
Theorizing Fragmented State Capacity -- Contemporary Public Service Variations in Bolivia -- Tracing the Origins of Fragmented State Capacity in Bolivia -- Fragmented State Capacity in Four Typical Bolivian Municipalities -- The Origins of Fragmented State Capacity.
Marco Just Quiles offers new perspectives on how domestic and external factors interact to shape variations in local state capacity. Using Bolivia as a case, he applies quantitative and qualitative methods to decode the nexus between global interdependencies, subnational bargaining processes, and diverging configurations of public service provision at the local level. Relying in part on newly compiled indicators, the author presents the ways in which shifting distributional coalitions between regional elites, central governments and their connections with international markets in different periods of the last century have produced the contemporary fragmentation of stateness in Bolivia. Contents Theorizing Fragmented State Capacity Contemporary Public Service Variations in Bolivia Tracing the Origins of Fragmented State Capacity in Bolivia Fragmented State Capacity in Four Typical Bolivian Municipalities The Origins of Fragmented State Capacity Target Groups Researchers and students of Latin American studies, comparative politics, and development studies Policy makers, state officials, development advisors The Author Dr. Marco Just Quiles is an associated researcher at the Institute for Latin American Studies (LAI) at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. Previously, he was a scholarship holder in the International Graduate Program “Between Spaces” and an associated Ph.D. researcher at desigualdades.net. .
