Das Buch, das inzwischen als Standard-Literatur der Luftfahrtindustrie gilt, beschreibt den Aufbau und die Aktivitäten luftfahrttechnischer Betriebe. Dies sind Unternehmen, welche Teile, Komponenten, Baugruppen und Triebwerke für Luftfahrzeuge oder die Luftfahrzeuge selbst entwickeln, herstellen oder instandhalten. Die technische Luftfahrtbranche weist erhebliche Spezifika auf, da deren Aktivitäten maßgeblich durch die Regularien der zuständigen Luftaufsichtsbehörden bestimmt werden. Somit nehmen die Behörden erheblichen Einfluss auf Betriebsorganisation, Personalqualifizierung, Qualitätssystem sowie die Leistungserbringung selbst. Diese Besonderheiten, Zusammenhänge und Abläufe werden im Buch sowohl aus Sicht der Luftfahrtgesetzgebung als auch aus dem Blickwinkel der betrieblichen Praxis thematisiert. In der 4. Auflage wurden die Vorgaben der EASA-Regelwerke aktualisiert und die Anforderungen der Luftfahrtnorm EN 9100 in ihrer 2018er Revision berücksichtigt. Zudem lehrt er Betriebswirtschaft mit Schwerpunkt Aviation-Management an der IUBH - Internationale Hochschule in Hamburg. Vor seiner jetzigen Tätigkeit war er viele Jahre bei der Lufthansa Technik AG beschäftigt. 2010 verließ Dr. Hinsch die LHT nach einer längeren Tätigkeit als Senior Consultant im Mittleren Osten.
