Zeit spielt in Adornos Philosophie eine tragende, allerdings vergleichsweise verdeckte Rolle. Gabriele Geml zeigt in diesem Buch, wie Adorno über die Zeit seiner Zeit dachte, indem sie modellhaft unterschiedliche Stränge dieser Zeittheorie rekonstruiert. Deren Besonderheiten liegen in der Zusammenführung von soziokulturellen, geschichtsphilosophischen und ästhetischen – insbesondere musikästhetischen – Problemkreisen; darüber hinaus in der sprachlichen Darstellungsform, die Adorno gemäß seiner Auffassung von Kritischer Theorie als eine Gestalt von Praxis begriff.
