Dieses Buch zeigt den Einfluss informationstechnischer Erfindungen und Innovationen, wie Radio, TV und Internet, auf die öffentliche Meinung sowie auf das politische Handeln. Diese Medien und die entsprechenden Medienpraktiken nehmen heute eine wichtige Rolle in den teils jungen Demokratien Europas und Nordamerikas ein. Damit wird das informationelle Vertrauen zur zentralen Frage der Politik. Weder der Begriff noch das Phänomen „Fake News“ sind neu. Daher geht das Buch der Frage nach, welche Rolle die alten und nicht mehr ganz so neuen Medien bei der öffentlichen Meinungsbildung spielen und ob es strukturelle Veränderungen in diesem Bereich gibt. Denn: Wenn wir die Entstehung der öffentlichen Meinung verstehen wollen, müssen wir uns auf den Boulevard begeben, auf die sprichwörtliche Straße, auf den Bürgersteig. Der transdisziplinäre Blick in Ullrichs Buch erlaubt es dem Leser, die eingesetzte Technik im gesellschaftlichen Kontext zu verstehen. Technische Sachverhalte werden einfach, aber dennoch detailliert in Bezug zu politischen und sozialen Themen gesetzt. Das Sachbuch spricht damit jeden an, der sich für neue Medien, Ethik und Politik interessiert. Der Autor Stefan Ullrich ist promovierter Informatiker und Philosoph. Er leitet die Forschungsgruppe „Verantwortung und das Internet der Dinge“ am Weizenbaum-Institut für die vernetzte Gesellschaft in Berlin. Seit 2011 ist er als Sprecher der Fachgruppe „Informatik und Ethik“ der Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI e. V.) aktiv.
