Uterus Transplantation
[electronic resource] /edited by Mats Brännström. - 1st ed. 2020. - XI, 230 p. 26 illus., 24 illus. in color.online resource.
Introduction and historical background of uterus transplantation.-Ethics of uterus transplantation -- Patients with uterine factor infertility – general -- MRKH patients and their preparations for UTx -- Rodent animal research in UTx -- Large (domestic) animal research in UTx -- Non-human primate research in UTx -- Preclinical human research in UTx -- Medical work up of UTx recipient -- Live or deceased uterus donor -- Medical work up of live donor in UTx -- Medical work up of deceased donor -- Psychological evaluations before UTx -- Assisted reproduction before and after UTx -- Surgical technique of donor¬–live donor UTx -- Surgical technique of deceased donor UTx -- Surgical techniques in preparation of recipient -- Back-table preparation and flushing of the uterus -- Aborted uterus transplantation -- Surgical technique for vascular anastomosis of the graft -- Surgical technique for fixation of the graft -- Immunosuppression and treatment of rejection in UTx -- Evaluation of graft function after UTx -- Rejection diagnosis after UTx -- Psychology after UTx -- Obstetrics after UTx -- Surgical technique for cesarean section from transplanted uterus -- Surgical technique for hysterectomy after UTx -- Long-term consequences of immunosuppression at UTx -- The future–expansion of patient groups for UTx -- The future–bioengineered uterus.
This book discusses all aspects of the uterus transplantation procedure in women who are childless because of a dysfunctional or missing uterus, from initial pre-operative investigations to follow-up after the uterine graft has been removed. All the international experts who are engaged in clinical activities and/or research in this field have contributed one or more of the book’s chapters. Since the first live birth following uterus transplantation was reported in Sweden in September 2014, the field has been rapidly evolving around the globe: the first cases in USA, Germany, China, Brazil, and Czech Republic were performed in 2016 and several other centres are preparing for clinical trials of uterus transplantation. Uterus transplantation is a subject that attracts the attention of many bioethicists, and like all other major procedures in transplantation surgery and assisted reproduction techniques, it is a complex process that requires a multidisciplinary team if it is to be successful. As such the book is a valuable resource not only for clinicians from many disciplines, but also for nurses, ethicists, psychologists and researchers. .
