Dieses Lehrbuch zeichnet sich durch eine verbale und leicht verständliche Beschreibung der in den Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften verwendeten statistischen Verfahren aus. Zahlreiche praxisrelevante Beispiele illustrieren und betonen die immer stärker werdende Bedeutung der Datenanalyse für den Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftler. Die anwendungsbezogene Darstellung gliedert sich in drei Teile, der beschreibenden und der schließenden Statistik sowie der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung als Bindeglied. Das Buch deckt den Stoff eines einjährigen Kurses ab und ist damit besonders für die Bachelorausbildung in Statistik geeignet. Die vorliegende dritte Auflage ist eine korrigierte und in einigen Teilen überarbeitete Neufassung der zweiten Auflage. So wird der wesentliche Lernstoff eines jeden Kapitels anfangs motiviert und am Ende noch einmal übersichtlich zusammengefasst. Die Autoren Prof. Dr. Philipp Sibbertsen ist Direktor des Instituts für Statistik an der Leibniz Universität Hannover. Dr. Hartmut Lehne war lange Jahre Akademischer Rat am Institut für Statistik der Leibniz Universität Hannover. Aktuell ist er Fakultätsgeschäftsführer der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät dieser Universität.
