Regional Perspectives on Farm Energy
[electronic resource] /edited by Daniel Ciolkosz. - 1st ed. 2022. - VI, 153 p. 51 illus., 48 illus. in color.online resource.
Introduction._ Energy Use On-Farm -- Energy Efficiency - Smart Metering -- Energy Efficiency - Equipment Use and Installation -- Energy Efficiency for Field Operations -- Energy Efficiency for Dairy Farms -- Energy Efficiency for Livestock Housing -- Energy Efficiency for Fruit and Vegetable Storage -- Energy Efficiency for Grain Drying -- Energy Efficiency for Irrigation -- Energy Efficiency for Maple Syrup Production -- Energy Efficiency - Greenhouse Energy Management -- On-Farm Energy Production - Solar, Wind, Geothermal -- On-Farm Energy Production - Biomass Heating On-Farm Energy Production – Biogas -- On-Farm Energy Production - Biofuels. .
This book examines the characteristics and opportunities for farm energy in the northeast quadrant of the United States, with attention to energy use, strategic energy management, and energy production by solar, wind, biomass, and other means. Throughout, the distinct characteristics of the region and their impact on energy solutions are discussed, and the outlook for future energy strategies is considered. Farm energy production and use are topics of increasing interest, as the need for improved efficiency and the opportunity for sustainable energy production both drive agricultural enterprises to reduce energy use and pursue opportunities for renewable energy production and use on the farm. However, the unique regional characteristics of agriculture make it challenging to apply a single approach to all situations. • Considers both energy production and energy utilization; • Examines energy use trends and opportunities for energy efficiency; • Reviews status and trends of energy systems on the farm.
