In this text, artist Sara Zielinski discusses some of the themes explored in her recent work through both personal and critical narratives. Violence and its many forms and definitions and recurring themes throughout this text. Care, abolition, and accessibility also feature prominently. Zielinski explores her own positionality as a white cis woman artist in relation to these themes, how she creates work, and how she exists in the world. This text is mostly situated in New York City, though early sections take place in Miami and Boston. Zielinski cites Dread Scott, Mariama Kaba, Myriam Gurba, Niousha Kiarashi, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Sara Gozalo, Sarah Schulman, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Zadie Smith, Martine Syms, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, and The Magnetic Fields, among other sources. WHERE I'M MAKING WORK FROM includes many images of Zielinski's work.
