The goal of this study was to develop an efficient extraction method to analyze consumer cannabidiol and hemp products for labeling accuracy, including concentration of cannabidiol and to confirm that the amount of THC is below the legal limit of 0.3%. A total of 18 CBD and hemp cosmetic products were purchased from various stores and ran in triplicate to analyze their CBD concentrations. All concentrations were calculated using Agilent Technologies MassHunter Quantitative Analysis Software. The samples were extracted using a 4:1 ratio of methanol to H2O and qualitative and quantitative validation was performed for the final extraction method. THC was not detected in any of the 18 products during a trial run, analysis for the presence of THC was not necessary. Out of these products, 9 had a higher concentration of CBD than what was reported on the label and 9 had a lower concentration of CBD than what was reported on the label or no CBD was detected.
