Voter suppression works to decrease the competition of elections within states. The suppression comes in many forms but traditionally, have targeted oppressed and marginalized groups in the state. This presents ethical, moral, and legitimacy problems for the state. By looking at photo-ID law's impact on the 2020 presidential election, while controlling for Black population in each state, my research explores how photo-ID harms voter turnout but also, harms Black voters at a higher rate than non-Black voters. Spreading awareness of these tactics and how to defeat them will not only remove unworthy legislators out of office but will also work to depower the institutions that significantly target, and limit marginalized people within the United States, and help America push forward towards a unified and inclusive nation.
