This study examines the interdict penalty, one of the penalties found in the Catholic Church's penal code. Since its inception, its application and scope have evolved, nonetheless, the medicinal aspect, the core of censure, has always been maintained. This research will be divided into three chapters. The first chapter investigates the goal of punitive legislation by evaluating the legality principle, which serves as the foundation for the penal part of the code. The historical development of the penalty of interdict will be detailed in chapter two, taking into account the penalty's scope and the challenges that have emerged. The final chapter will be a review of the usage of the interdict penalty in relation to prior legislation, with a discussion of the reform process. The use of the interdict penalty encompasses not only the pastoral approach envisioned by the Second Vatican Council, but also captures the spirit which the new revision of Book VI attempted to accomplish.
