This research examined the scarcity of infrastructure and workforce pipelines in Alaskan cultural tourism today in comparison to the emerging needs of a booming Alaska industry. Viable solutions and best practices for investment into cultural tourism initiatives that could have an economic and workforce benefit in the home of Alaska's first people were examined. Tourism is one of the most thriving and growing economic activities in Alaska. In this body of work, the researcher explored the world of cultural tourism in Alaska, specifically in the Anchorage area. The study also examined opportunities and challenges specifically cultural tourism's impact in the local economy and workforce. The data indicates that a successful model for cultural tourism could support improvement of the livelihood for Alaska's Indigenous Peoples, spur cultural interaction, bolster the economy, boost employment, break the cycle of generational poverty, empower youth, and reconnect Indigenous people to their identities. This project was in alignment with the Alaska Native Heritage Center's (ANHC) organizational mission of preserving and strengthening the traditions, languages, and art of Alaska's Native People through statewide collaboration, celebration, and education. It is the researcher's aim that this study will support efforts to ensure Alaska Native people and cultures are respected, valued, and thriving. The researcher tapped into the local and statewide network for cultural tourism via new and established relationships. The project used qualitative and secondary research methods.
