Thesis (M.S.)--New York University Tandon School of Engineering, 2023.
Includes bibliographical references
With the increasing reliance on digital technology, the role of digital menus in the food and beverage industry has become more critical than ever. This thesis project aims to develop a comprehensive guideline for non-expert users, specifically small restaurant owners and freelance designers, enabling them to create accessible and responsive digital menus that cater to diverse customer needs and preferences. The research process involved gathering insights from menu designers and general customers, conducting competitor analysis and reviewing secondary research, and conducting case studies to identify common challenges and best practices in digital menu design. The resulting guideline covers various aspects of digital menu creation, including defining objectives, research planning, content planning, content organization, sketching, optimizing for mobile, design, user testing, launch, and maintenance. This project also includes a case study of a digital menu redesign for Amy's Ice Cream, demonstrating the practical application of the guideline. By following the proposed guideline, non-expert users can create digital menus that not only improve customer experience but also ultimately boost business profits.
