The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore cybersecurity professionals' attitudes, opinions, perceptions, and life experiences with cyber threat intelligence (CTI) driven phishing awareness programs. This study sought to address the ongoing problem of phishing threats, which causes billions of dollars in damages to organizations each year. This study was specifically delimited to phishing awareness programs and was not intended to study cybersecurity awareness programs as a whole. The theoretical and conceptual framework used for this study was grounded theory with phenomenology. From a LinkedIn population, nonprobable purposive and convenience sampling strategies were used to recruit 23 qualified professionals (n=23) from 23 organizations with varying demographics. A two-phased survey method including 5-point Likert-type and multiple choice/open-ended response formats was used to collect data. Descriptive and thematic strategies were used for data analysis. Twelve themes including three holistic themes emerged from the data. The holistic themes were: 1.) Phishing is a principal concern to organizations. 2.) CTI driven phishing awareness programs have value. 3.) Collaboration is key to program success. This research study may be significant to all organizations regardless of demographics or risk profile, because phishing is a threat to all organizations regardless of the organization's identifying characteristics or geographic disposition. Future qualitative studies should include targeted research into program maturation through investigating the most effective strategies and methodologies for governing, implementing and operating CTI driven phishing awareness programs. Additional research is needed to fully understand the value of CTI driven phishing awareness programs.
