The purpose of this project was to develop and evaluate a weight loss program utilizing strategic management and strategic leadership processes with a comprehensive approach to program development. Obesity is a complex chronic condition that affects the health and wellness of 41.9% of the U.S. population (Laine, 2023). Because of the cost of healthcare associated with chronic conditions and the negative impact to the health and lifestyle of those diagnosed with obesity, there is a need to develop weight loss programs that emphasize lifestyle change as well as medication management technics using GLP1 receptor agonists to ensure sustained weight loss. Successful weight loss program development and implementation requires using strategic management and strategic leadership processes. It is crucial for healthcare organizations to strategically assess and evaluate current and potential programs to ensure program success. Strategic program development has four key components including conducting a situational analysis, defining strategic choices, organizational alignment, and implementation. A thorough evaluation using a SWOT analysis and PESTEL analysis provides the framework for determining program considerations. The research and analysis identified the need for a comprehensive weight loss program utilizing diet, exercise, behavioral change, and GLP1 receptor agonist medications. A formal implementation and evaluation plan provides the framework for weight loss program structure that can assist with long-term weight loss success.
