Bio-urbanism is a holistic approach to urban design that integrates natural and built environments to create sustainable, livable, and healthy cities. It emphasizes the importance of ecology, biology, and biophilic design concepts in developing urban spaces that support the well-being of people and the planet. This approach recognizes the interdependence of nature and urbanization and aims to create spaces that mitigate adverse impacts on the environment while enhancing the quality of life for residents. Bio-urbanism promotes utilizing green infrastructure, such as parks, green roofs, and urban forests, to improve air and water quality, reduce heat island effects, and provide habitats for wildlife. It also emphasizes using sustainable building materials and energy-efficient technologies and incorporating natural elements like sunlight, water, and vegetation into building design for the site of Red Hook, Brooklyn.
