Cryptocurrencies are a relatively new technology that have yet to be thoroughly explored in research. Trust in systems is an increasingly important area of research due to the continual rise in technological innovation. There are numerous factors that have been found to impact individuals' trust in systems, such as reliability of the system and familiarity, which can be manipulated through training. This thesis examines the effects of the reliability of cryptocurrency exchanges and training on cryptocurrencies on the behavioral and perceived trust in cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies are speculative, risky assets that often drastically fluctuate in price. Investors often purchase cryptocurrencies in hopes of large financial gains without researching and performing necessary due diligence on these assets. Many individuals, including a large portion of cryptocurrency investors, do not fully understand how cryptocurrencies function or the potential risks and benefits involved with this investment. Cryptocurrency exchanges, which are used to buy and sell these assets, are often unreliable during periods of high activity or large price changes. This leaves investors unable to interact with their cryptocurrencies, resulting in missed opportunities to buy or sell during these important periods of time. This study investigates the amount of training on cryptocurrencies as well as the reliability of exchanges on the behavioral and perceived trust placed in these systems. The results of this study showed that the reliability of cryptocurrency exchanges and the order of the reliability conditions had a significant effect on the behavioral trust placed in cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, the results indicated that previous cryptocurrency investment experience and risk propensity had significant effects on perceived trust.
