The research investigates the relationship between the deal and firm characteristics of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) premium determinants and sustainable growth rate (SGR) in the health care providers and service industry. Previous scholars have shown the impact of deal and firm characteristics (M&A premium determinants) on profitability; however, scholars still need to determine the extent of the influence of M&A premium determinants on SGR. The resolution to the research question of the study, "To what extent do M&A premium determinants impact SGR in the health care providers and services industry?" was significant to industry executives and senior management in M&A decision-making processes. This study applies synergy theory, hubris theory, and the SGR model to determine the extent of the relationship between M&A premium determinants and SGR. The population of this study included 319 M&A firms in the health care providers and services industry. A statistical correlational method was selected for the study. S&P Capital IQ Global provided archival data for health care providers and the services industry. The stepwise analysis significantly improved the model and influenced SGR [R2 =.535, R2adj =.528, F(5, 313) = 72.063, p < .001]. Therefore, the findings of the research do not support the acceptance of the null hypothesis. Furthermore, the model accounted for 53.50% of the total variance in SGR. ROE (B =.287, p < 0.001), quick ratio (B =.949, p =.007), and leverage ratio (B =.066, p =.003) all significantly predicted SGR. However, geography diffusion (B = -4.162, p =.006) and cash flow (B = -0.065, p =.026) were both significant predictors with an inverse relationship.
