Gender-stereotyping is defined as assigning certain attributes, behaviors, and characteristics to a certain gender. Gender roles are developed early in childhood and continue throughout life. These roles influence decisions such as behavior, attitudes, and even careers. The purpose of this study was to identify if a significant correlation exists between a parent's demographics, a parent's gender role beliefs, and a child's gender-stereotypical behaviors. There are substantial gaps in the psychological literature within gender-stereotypes and gender-roles and there is no current study that compares both parental demographic variables and parental gender role belief variables and how they correlate to a child's gender-stereotypical behavior. Quantitative research and theoretical analysis was used to answer the research questions: 1) does a parent's sex at birth (male/female), marital status (married/not married), number of children (one/multiple), and the parent's gender role belief predict a child's gender stereotypical behavior, 2) is there a unique ability of a parent's sex at birth (male/female), marital status (married/not married), number of children (one/multiple), and the parent's gender role belief to predict a child's gender stereotypical behavior, and 3) is there a variable or combination of variables that best predicts a child's stereotypical behavior? Social role theory provided the theoretical framework for the study, as the theory suggests that behavior and attitudes are developed through observation and conditioning. Participants over the age of 18, with at least one child between the ages of two and eight, were recruited for this study. One hundred and two participants completed an online survey broken down into three sections: a demographic section, a gender role belief section, and a child, play, behavior, and activity section, totaling 125 questions. Once all data was gathered, multiple linear regression analyses were performed to examine the relationship between each predictor variable and the outcome variable. The findings concluded no significant relationship between any combination of predictor variables and the outcome variable. Therefore, the findings determined that parental demographics, and parental gender role beliefs do not significantly correlate with a child's gender-stereotypical behavior. Recommendations for future studies are encouraged using different ages of children for possible different outcomes in data. The data from this study, and future studies, can assist psychologists in understanding the continuous changes in societal gender norms and the behaviors associated with those changes.
