清代臺灣歷史研究，時常將單一詞彙或概念套用到整個清治兩百年的期間。「羅漢腳」一詞的解釋亦有這樣的問題，釐清「羅漢腳」一詞的出現及其演變，即是這篇論文的目的。從乾隆27（1762）年的〈赤崁竹枝詞〉，和32（1767）年的「嚴禁棍徒藉屍嚇騙差查勒索碑」兩份史料說明「羅漢腳」一詞在臺灣出現的時機。進而探討「羅漢腳」一詞，如何被民間理解，又如何被立碑的官員運用，爬梳該詞彙出現的歷史脈絡。接著，以乾隆33（1768）年的黃教事件為中心。從官員處理這起事件的過程，到事件過後的善後報告，了解為何「羅漢腳」會與「社會動亂來源」拉上連結。乾隆中後期的臺灣出現多起社會動亂，在官員處理這些動亂的過程中，「羅漢腳」和社會動亂的連結已經定型。「羅漢腳」一詞隨著官員不斷用於描述動亂事件，故增加許多新的形象，並持續用於日後社會動亂的檢討報告。最後在道光13（1833）年，官員長期累積下來對於「羅漢腳」的各種負面形容，由陳盛韶整理記錄在《問俗錄》中。

520 $a In the study of Taiwanese history in the Qing Dynasty, a single term or concept was often applied to the entire period of two hundred years of Qing rule. The interpretation of the term "Luohan feet" also has such problems. Clarifying the appearance and evolution of the term "Luohan feet" is the purpose of this paper. From the "Chikan Zhuzhi Ci" in the 27th (1762) year of Qianlong's reign, and the "Strictly Prohibiting Sticks Using Corpses to Intimidate, Defraud, and Extort the Monument" in the 32nd (1767) year of Qianlong's reign, the timing of the appearance of the term "Luohanjiao" in Taiwan is illustrated. Then discuss how the word "Luohan feet" is understood by the people, and how it is used by officials who erected monuments, and sort out the historical context of the word's emergence. Then, center on the Yellow Sect incident in the 33rd year of Qianlong (1768). From the process of officials handling this incident to the aftermath report after the incident, understand why "Arhat's feet" are linked to "sources of social unrest". There were many social turmoil in Taiwan in the middle and late Qianlong period. In the process of officials dealing with these turmoil, the connection between "arhat feet" and social turmoil has been finalized. As officials continue to use the term "Luo Han Jiao" to describe unrest, many new images have been added, and it will continue to be used in future review reports on social unrest. Finally, in the 13th year of Daoguang (1833), various negative descriptions of "arhat's feet" accumulated by officials for a long time were compiled and recorded by Chen Shengshao in "Wensulu".
