Mental health services promote mental health, increase academic performance and decrease bullying and suicide when integrated into K-12 education systems. However, the extent of mental health provision in a school system is dictated by those in leadership positions, not the mental health care providers. These leaders may lack the proper training and skills to assist the healthcare providers in their school system. Moreover, mental health providers that work on a rotating basis may need extra support. This study aims to examine the work productivity of healthcare professionals in relation to how they perceive Leader Member Exchanges (LMX) with the leaders of the schools they work with. The population studied consists of roving, part-time school mental health providers who have flexible hours and less presence at any one school than full time providers. The LMX Likert scale survey is used to measure the study sample's perceptions of their leader-worker relations, and the data gathered was analyzed using multiple linear regressions in order to determine how the productivity of the study population was affected by their perceived relationship to the leaders that dictated mental health services in schools. While the results showed that job productivity was statistically significant in predicting worker perceptions of LMX, the correlation was surprisingly negative. There was no significant mediating effect on the relationship between perceptions of LMX and worker productivity. Even so, the data could be used to implement better mental health programs by determining the impact of skilled and engaging leaders on them.
