In today's digital era, the prevalence of customer personal information is undeniable. The availability and utilization of customer personal information certainly bring numerous benefits and opportunities. However, it has also given rise to customer concerns regarding information privacy. While existing research has provided valuable insights into customer information privacy concerns and their effects on customer behaviors in the marketing context, there is a need for further exploration to advance this crucial research area. This is particularly important as new marketplace phenomena emerge and certain marketplace contexts have been historically overlooked.The objective of this dissertation is to investigate the negative aspects associated with the widespread availability and utilization of customer personal information. Essay 1 focuses on the potential negative outcomes of sharenting on children due to parents' sharing of children's personal information online. Using the parental style framework, this study examines how parental style influences parents' sharenting practices. The key findings show that authoritarians are more prone to being motivated by impression management and have children who are most likely to experience negative outcomes of sharenting. Furthermore, the study highlights that when authoritarian parents express greater concern about information privacy, their children are less likely to encounter negative consequences resulting from sharenting. Essay 2 focuses on the potential negative effects of salespeople's use of customer personal information during business-to-business sales meetings. It demonstrates that when salesperson uses customers' sensitive unrevealed personal information (UPI), customers exhibit reduced purchase intentions and behaviors. This effect is moderated by customers' information privacy concerns. Practical implications and recommendations are discussed.
