Psychological well-being is widely considered a core component of good health. The goal of the study was to better understand how prayer and meditation affect psychological well-being. This was done by exploring how different types of prayer and meditation might increase mindfulness. A theoretical mechanism behind mindfulness is cognitive flexibility, therefore, analysis of this trait was at the center of the study. Data was gathered using an online survey composed of multiple scales, including the multidimensional prayer inventory, a 15-item scale used to investigate a theoretical five prayer types. Due to a lack of sensitivity in a key scale, limitations in the data forced a change in the study from the initial design. Using the modified design, psychological well-being and cognitive flexibility were found to be positively correlated with certain prayer types, backing-up previous research. Curiously, meditation did not have a correlation with either attribute, possibly due to idiosyncrasies in the study design and participant population.
