Chapter 1 analyzes the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS)-2017 dataset to find the impact of changes in the prices of electric and non-electric vehicles on household preferences for Plug-In electric vehicles (PEV). It also predicts EV market share in new vehicle sales with and without the new EV incentive policy to test if the target of 50 percent market share of electric vehicles in new vehicle sales is achievable by 2030. The results show that EVs have own-price and cross-price elasticity, and achieving the federal government's target of 50 percent of EV sales in new vehicle sales by 2030 is challenging even with the new federal EV incentive.Chapter 2 analyzes data on developing Asian countries to find the causal relationship between remittance income and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) based on variation in the remittance as a percent of GDP with IV estimation. The results show that a 10 percent increase in remittance income can increase the average GDP by 4 percent. The sensitivity analysis confirms the result. However, the impact is growth promoting only if the share of remittances on GDP is higher than 5 percent and lower than 10 percent. The mergers and acquisitions of US airlines vary in terms of their timing and impact on different aspects of the airline industry. Previous studies on mergers have mainly focused on product quality, market power, and price with very few examining productivity and efficiency. Chapter 3 aims to analyze the impact of airline mergers and acquisitions on the productivity of merged airlines in the US airline industry. The empirical results show that the overall impact of mergers on productivity is negative. However, this impact varies depending on the year of the merger. There is a decline in productivity of the airlines which are merged in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and an increase in 2013. Although the merger initially causes a drop in productivity during the first few post-merger years, that dissipates later in the post-merger period.
