The purpose of this study was to investigate the affects of internal and external attentional focus while under pressure. The design of the study was a field based, using a within-subjects design. 36 participants were provided with internal and external focus of attention instructions under low and high pressure conditions. Putt accuracy and putt duration were measured as dependent variables for attentional focus and pressure manipulations. A significant interaction was found between attentional focus and pressure. Additionally, significant main effect was found for putt duration, specifically, the external focus condition yielded higher putt duration times than the internal condition. Results supported previous attentional focus research, where an external focus yielded greater putting accuracy when pressure was higher.
